How to Embed YouTube Video in your MySpace Profile E-mail

What is better than being able to share your favorite video clips with your friend?  Little else, after all when you find a funny video you are usually emailing it off to your friends and family anyways.  What if you could simplify this process and make it simple to share by just embedding the video nice and neatly onto your MySpace page?  This is really not as complicated as it sounds, really, it is not.

Take a deep relaxing breath, remain calm, and prepare to make your MySpace page fully loaded with all of your favorite videos.  First, you really need to surf around YouTube and find the videos that you want to embed.  You can find loads of videos on almost any topic imaginable.  If your MySpace page is focused around a particular topic this makes it great because you can even find a video that will fit into your theme!

Once you have found the perfect video, do not worry if you change your mind later.  Once you know how to embed the video, you can change it out in a matter of seconds to the next video that wins your heart.  No worries over commitment here, you are free to change around as much as you like.

The way that YouTube enables you to easily embed the video needs to be modified slightly before it will work.  Typically you would just take the embed script that will be displayed on the right side of the video and paste that into your profile.  However, for reasons unknown MySpace has decided to ban the use of the object tag from their pages.  This means that embed script must be modified slightly.  This is not a major task at all.  I am going to use this example for you to see.

Example of embed script from YouTube

<object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/5sw2OvIgoO8"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/5sw2OvIgoO8" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object>

As you can see, this script includes a tag <object width="425" height="350"> at the end of the script you can see </object>  this is the portion of the script that must be modified.  In order for this to work on MySpace the script would need to simply be modified like this:

<param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/5sw2OvIgoO8"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/5sw2OvIgoO8" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed>

As you can see, the remainder of the script is exactly the same, but the object tag is now gone.  This will modify the script so that MySpace will not recognize it.  You can first try embedding a video on MySpace using this script if you would like for a sample, or you can try with the clip of your choice.

Remember, in order for this script to work, you must remove the object tag from the beginning as well as the very end of the script.  Without removing both tags, it will not work and you will end up frustrated.  Most people who have problems embedding have forgotten to remove a tag, or remove the entire tag.

Once you have the script modified you can simply add the script to your MySpace profile, and click save.  Your video is now embedded into your MySpace page, and everyone else can see exactly what want to share.  This method is very simple, and as you can see, allows for quick updates and changes as new videos cross your path that you want to share.

If you have problems with your embed, please remember to carefully check the object tags.  Everything from the < to the > must be removed that is surrounding the object in order for it to work.  Some users only remove <object width> however there is more to the object tag than that the entire tags looks like this <object width="425" height="350"> with the numbers varying between videos at times.
