What to do if you are being Bullied on MySpace E-mail

While MySpace can be a great place to make new friends and network with existing friends there is no denying that anytime you are using an online forum of any type there exists the potential for harassment and even bullying. Sadly, cyberbullying has become somewhat of a problem as society has advanced and begun to use the Internet more and more as a way to network socially. The good news is that there are steps that can, and should, be taken if you find yourself in the position of being bullied on MySpace or any other social networking site for that matter.

First, try avoidance. If you find that you are being bugged or harassed by another user on MySpace the best policy may be to just simply ignore them. Like any other bully some people will simply stop if they realize that they are not getting under your skin.

Another option would be to remove that person from your Friend List. This action removes their ability to add any comments to your profile page and will, in many cases, immediately put a stop to the problem. Most people will simply go away once they realize they don’t have the ability to intimidate you any further through comments.

In order to do this you will need to first login to your MySpace account. Then click on the Edit Friends link. This is located under My Friend Space. Next, click the box beside the person you wish to remove. Now, hit the Delete Selected button. That’s all there is to it.

Along the same lines you also have the ability to remove any comments they have previously left on your profile page that you find offensive.

To do this, go to View/Edit All Comments. This is located on your homepage. From there you can then delete whichever comments you want.

You also have the ability to delete any messages they have send to you on the MySpace Mail System if you choose and not even open them. Keep in mind that if you respond to the user who is bullying you it just gives them more power. So, often the best policy is to simply delete the mail without ever even responding. Be aware; however, that if there have been any specific threats made against you, you should contact law enforcement officials and not delete the comments as these may be needed as evidence.

To do this, all you need to do is go to your messages and click beside whichever messages you want to delete in the Delete column.

There are also other options available to you as well. For example you can view their profile and then block them. This will prevent them from contacting you any further in the future.

To do this, click on the user’s profile and then look in the Contact box that is located just under their picture. On the right there will be an option that says Block User.

In the event that the person bothering you has created any type of bad profile about you can also contact customer service at MySpace and let them know about it. In your message to them be sure to reference the link to the problem profile.

Ways in which you can avoid the possibility of being bullied by someone on MySpace and other social networking sites include not granting permission for anyone you do not know to become your friend and never opening messages from someone you do not know

Of course, if at any time the person makes threats against you the best course of action is to contact law enforcement officials.
