Friends Mourn on MySpace E-mail

The recent events that unfolded at the Virginia Tech School have left everyone shaken. It is hard to try to understand what the families of the victims as well as the survivors have been through during such an ordeal. The popular website MySpace has many different postings by friends of the victims how are mourning. They are sharing their feelings as well as asking questions about how and why something like this could have happened.

You can take a look at most anywhere on the internet and find thousands of postings on the various blogs out there. Many parents and experts wonder if this has become the new way of mourning for this generation though. Instead of talking with family, friends, and counselors they are pouring their hearts out by typing the information and posting it. This is definitely safer than taking to a real person in many ways but it takes away that chance for human interaction to physically offer comfort.

Yet this method is also allowing many individuals an avenue for opening up and sharing their experiences. One common method of therapy is writing down your feelings in a journal. Is writing the information down on a MySpace page or a blog any different? In almost all aspects it really isn’t.

Many of the victims of the Virginia Tech shooting actually had MySpace pages set up. Thousands of people have clicked on the links to these pages to find out more about the people who had their lives cut short due to such an act of violence. In addition, the MySpace pages for fallen soldiers all over the world due to the war have been having their pages visited as a tribute by internet users as well. Friends mourn on myspaceThis is all done out of mourning and respect for those who gave their lives so bravely.

There are plenty of other stories out there with death taking place even if they aren’t on a National scale. Recent ones include a mother who passed away from breast cancer and a group of teenagers who died in a car accident on their way home from a night of partying.

The messages left for those who have passed on from people all over the world really allow you to see the compassion that truly does live on in our society. The messages are full of emotion and support. In an age where computer technology is dominate having someone remembered by showering their MySpace page with notes and pictures is very acceptable and a common way to mourn.

MySpace currently doesn’t have any policies in place regarding taking down the pages of those who have died. Many are encouraging MySpace to leave them up sense they serve as a wonderful reminder of the individual. They also offer a place where everyone can come share their feelings about the event. Since there is no given length of time that a person grieves for someone else, this type of memorial can serve as a well needed support system anytime.
