Myspace Sex Offenders E-mail

A New report has just confirmed what we have always thought to be true;

There are 'Thousands of sex offenders using MySpace... posing a risk to children who are among the site's most avid users, eight US attorneys-general have said. (SMH, Thousands of sex offenders using Myspace)

This information has come to light after an internal investigation, but the identity of the sources was not given.

As this news comes to light, US lawmakers are considering making it a crime for anyone over 18 to misrepresent their age for the purpose of luring a minor over the internet for illegal sexual contact.

While age verification measures would mean fewer sign ups for Myspace (and fewer advertising dollars), surely this is evidence that such steps should be taken sooner rather then later?

A quick update: MySpace says it has identified, removed and blocked "a few thousand" user profiles of convicted sex offenders among its 175 million profiles on its service as part a previously announced program to protect its youth members from adult predators.
