MySpace Suicide Notes and other News |
|
Last week, 2 Australian teenagers hung themselves after posting a suicide notes on Myspace: "let Steph and me b free." The girls, who apparently identified themselves with the emo subculture - described by one Sydney Newspaper as “stereotypically introverted and derided by other subcultures for self-pitying poetry commonly posted on Myspace.”
Myspace is full of self-pity; the sad thing is no one usually takes any notice of it unless you do something stupid. Kids… if you are having suicidal thoughts, or just need to talk to someone, there is help!
In Australia: Lifeline 13 11 14; Beyond Blue 1300 22 46 36 In the United States: Suicide Help Line 1-800-SUICIDE; HelpLine 211 In the United Kingdom: ChildLine 0800 1111
In other news…Millersville University is being sued after it decided it wouldn’t give Stacy Snyder her English Degree. Why you ask? A picture of her at a Halloween Party which bore the caption ‘Drunken Pirate’. What a bunch of dicks. Stacy, we are with you all the way on this one – This case does serve as a reminder though – be careful what you post on Myspace.
This week, Web Pro News reported that “the debut of MySpace News has generated a great big shrug among tech commentators so far.” (Myspace News Get a Big ‘Meh’). Wired's Mike Calore had this to say: "As they say, Rome (or Digg) wasn't built in a day, but as a product, MySpace News is what I would politely classify as "undercooked."
We haven’t even looked at yet? I had no idea it had even been launched. Can someone tell me where I can find it? LOL.
